It’s no secret that we use a CNC machine (made by ShopBot Tools) to produce parts for our bat houses. Recently, one of our vacuum pumps (a Fein Vacuum) failed and melted down. This presented me with the dilemma of purchasing another almost $500 Fein and risk the second one also melting down soon and replacing it, or taking the leap to the next level of vacuum hold down.
I choose to go with a pump produced by BlackBoxVac.com located in Jasper GA. I gave them a call. It generally takes a few weeks to ship, but they had an older unit in stock and I was able to drive up and pick it up. This let me get back to production. At the time the pump failed we were running an order of about 40 of our 4 chamber bat houses. Of course, equipment failure never picks a convenient time!
I’m pleased with the results so far, about 20 sheets have been processed with it and it is a huge improvement over the twin Feins.
By the numbers:
Feins as measured gave me 6″ Hg when sealed, 5.5″ Hg practical in use. Rated at about 250cfm combined.
The Hurricane vac from BlackBoxVac gives me 10″ Hg when sealed and it looks like almost 9″ Hg practical in use. Total rated is almost 400cfm.
I also like the fact I have the option of running only two motors or all 4 motors if needed. I’ve discovered, for most use the two motors work just fine.
