The Total Vision by Dirt Devil is an upright canister that comes with four on board attachments. We tested the vacuum on carpets by putting flour on the floor for fine particles.
You can see that it did a great job getting them all up. Next we used rice for medium particle, dyed with a bit of blue dye to make them more visible and again you can see that it did a wonderful job. And lastly we used white beans that we dyed to make them more visible. It took several passes but eventually it would get them all up.
Next we tested the Dirt Devil Total Vision vacuum on hard surface flooring, starting with flour again. You can see that it had no trouble getting the flour up. It struggled when we used rice. It sucked them off the floor but you can see that it spits them several feet behind as it cleaned. We had similar results with the beans as we did with the rice.
The Total Vision vacuum was moderately loud. You can’t carry on a conversation while using it but it isn’t ear piercing.
Next we tested the suction strength with our water lift gauge. At about 50 it’s a little below average but it’s still better than some vacuums with bigger motors. One of the things that we did not like about this vacuum was its filtration system. Even though it comes with a HEPA filter, you can see by the jump in our particle scanner that it’s actually releasing more particles in the air through the exhaust than in the air naturally.
We really liked the Total Vision’s power brush. You can see that it is cleaning up all of the hair on our upholstery.
Emptying the dirt container is very easy. You simply lift off the container, press the button to release the bottom and empty all of the dirt in the trash can. We recommend placing it far down into the trash can when you are emptying it.
You can see how the hose detaches at the base of the vacuum and released from its clips. You can secure any of the attachments on the hose but here we are using the power brush.
You will need to carry the vacuum up the stairs with you as you clean. The power brush did a great job cleaning our stairs.
